Vision and Mission

The renowned People's Education Society (Mumbai) was founded and established by Bodhisattva Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in the year 1945 with a view to rendering yeoman service to the noble cause of education.
As declared by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar himself, the aim and objective in founding the People's Education Society, was not "merely to give education, but to give education in such a manner as to promote intellectual, moral, and social democracy. This is what a well wisher of India must promote"
Marathwada has been for years together, a totally backward, neglected region. Not much attention was paid towards education by the earlier rulers of Marathwada who passed orders from places in Hyderabad. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar personally visited Aurangabad several times and decided to extend the education facilities undertaken by the People's Education Society, to this backward region. This great society made pioneering efforts in carrying the light of knowledge and learning to the doors of the common and the poor, who have been enveloped, hitherto by the darkness of ignorance for centuries together. The People's Education Society, under the Charimanship of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb himself under took the overall responsibility of rendering selfless service of promoting higher education among the masses of Marathwada in general, and downtrodden people in particular, through its various institutions which branched off the parent institution MILIND MAHAVIDYALAYA. A large number of students who passed out of these institutions have occupied important positions in India.

These people help to bridge the gap which divided physically, emotionally, socially and also economically, different sections of the Indian Society, for generations together.
Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, had a prophetic vision and a transcedental wisdom. He firmly believed that education should be related to the economic and social needs of this developing nation. It should be an instrument for social change and as such, it should meet the realities and challenges of the fast changing times.
The People's Education Society derives its inspiration from the teaching and philosophic ideas of the Lord Buddha. It believes in the principles of social justice and equality. Its primary aim is to promote higher education among the backward and poorer people in general and the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward classes in particular. The motto of this great society is "KNOWLEDGE AND LOVE" Every body knows knowledge is power and compassion governs the whole universe.

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar robustly believed that education was the only effective lever for the upliftment of the backward communities and downtrodden classes. Candidly speaking Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was not only an educationist but he was also a great social revolutionary, a thinker, a philosopher and statesman, father of the Indian constitution and above all the apostle of social equality and lover of the poor. About his great mission, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar said,"Whatever I have done I have been able to do after passing through frightful; crushing miseries and-endless troubles, all my life and fighting, with my opponents. With great difficulty I have brought this carvan where it is seen today. Let the carvan march on despite the hurdles that may come its way. If my Lieutenants are unable to take the Carvan ahead, they should leave it there, but under no circumstances should they allow the Carvan to go back. This is my message to my people."

Keeping in view the high ideals which Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar placed before his society and his educational institutions, his Lieutenants in the field of education have dedicated themselves to the task of helping the Carvan of this mission to move on, with all sincerity and singular oneness. Under its capacious umbrella, the People's Education Society runs, besides several colleges affiliated to Mumbai, Pune and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, also runs numerous high schools, (English and Marathi Medium) hostels and diploma institutes. Needless to point, some of these colleges are affiliated to Mumbai University and some to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marthwada University and one to Pune University, thereby imparting University education to as many as 90,000 students out of whom not less than 50 thousand come from the weaker sections alone. The P. E. Society proposes to start a Medical College at Aurangabad and Engineering College at Bangalore and a Commerce College, at New Delhi. The renowned People's Education Society's first College, at Aurangabad, Came into being in June, 1950. It was inaugurated at the hands of late. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Indian Republic. The facility for higher education in entire Marathwada Region, before 1950 was almost absent. A small Government Intermediate College catered to the needs of the limited students. For graduation and post graduation one had to go either to Mumbai or to Hyderabad. MILIND MAHAVIDYALAYA, therefore, became a poineering college in this region which laid the foundation of University Education in Marathwada. No doubt Marathwada boasted of a rich cultural heritage, and world -famous caves of Ajanta and Ellora have been historical monuments of the past glory of this region of saints and sages. The idea of having a University in Aurangabad has been an exclusive dream of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. His ambition was to have the colleges of different faculties in this region.Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marthwada University is his dream in reality.

MILIND COLLEGE OF ARTS came into existence in 1963 after a trifurcation of the Milind Mahavidyalaya which was named after the renowned Greek King Meanader who embraced Buddhism at the hands of Buddihist scholar, philosopher NAGSEN . The vast panoramic campus spread over 216 acres with beautiful landscape surrounded by the hillocks carved with Buddhist Caves, was already named as "NAGSEN VANA" after a great philosopher-monk, NAGSEN. The Milind College of Arts also has a grand Auditorium called "MILIND RANGAMANDIR" For the cultural activities of the students, the foundation stone of which was laid by the first Prime - Minister of India, the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in the year 1958. The garden in front of the Milind College was planned and laid out by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, himself, who had the unique desire of installing the statues of all great persons of the world. The college has NCC Unit, NSS Unit besides Gymkhana, The College has its own sanctity which in no circumstances be violated. The building has the ineffable touch of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar which has sanctified the whole atmosphere. The benevolent presence of the Buddha in the form of statues adds serenity to the campus and those who use this building should refrain from doing anything that tends to harm or destroy this sanctity. It has the unique holy touch of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
